Contact at Beam Me Up, This Place Kinda Sucks
17–19 July 2026 · Exhibition · Islington Mill, Salford · Contact
Contact was selected for Beam Me Up, This Place Kinda Sucks, a group exhibition at Islington Mill in Salford, curated by Cate Blanchard and Sasha Napoli.
Conceived as an immersive escape from the everyday, the exhibition brought together work engaging with the otherworldly, ethereal and surreal, transforming familiar experience into something less stable or easily explained.
Contact comes from The Visible Unknown, an ongoing photographic project exploring moments when perception loosens and the familiar world begins to feel subtly displaced.
Using deliberate in-camera soft focus, the series moves away from literal description towards something closer to perception as it is felt. In Contact, a familiar reflective object becomes difficult to resolve, sitting somewhere between material object, light source and apparition.
The work reflects the wider project’s interest in what happens when recognition is no longer enough to stabilise what we are seeing.
