Between Land and Sea Selected for Yeoju International Photo Festival 2026

Between Land and Sea has been selected for Earth Wanderer, part of the 2026 Yeoju International Photo Festival in South Korea.
Now in its fourth edition, the festival brings together photographers from Korea and around the world, with approximately 400 artists from 55 countries submitting around 2,000 works for consideration this year. Around 240 photographs were ultimately selected for exhibition across Yeoju.
The main Earth Wanderer exhibition considers the relationship between people, landscape and the environments through which we move. Presented through a combination of galleries and large scale outdoor installations, the programme brings together international perspectives on the land, environmental change, human movement and our place within the natural world. Public presentations extend into the landscape around Yeoju, including exhibition structures close to the Namhangang River and Yeoju Museum.
My selected photograph, Between Land and Sea, was made in Cinque Terre, Italy. Two figures appear in silhouette on a rocky coastline as the evening sun falls towards the sea, their bodies held momentarily between the solidity of the land and the openness of the water beyond.
The photograph considers human presence within landscape through scale, light and spatial relationship. The figures remain identifiable but largely anonymous, allowing the scene to move away from portraiture towards something more elemental: bodies temporarily occupying a landscape that extends far beyond them.
Within the context of Earth Wanderer, the image takes on an additional resonance. The boundary between land and sea becomes both physical and perceptual, placing the human figure at a threshold between different environments and reflecting the exhibition’s wider interest in how we inhabit, move through and understand the natural world.
Between Land and Sea will be exhibited as part of Yeoju International Photo Festival from 24 October to 23 November 2026.
