Colour Divides at Venice Photo Lab VIII

10–25 October 2026 · Exhibition · Ex Chiesa di San Leonardo, Venice, Italy · Colour Divides

Colour Divides is currently on show in Venice as part of the eighth edition of Venice Photo Lab, where I was invited to participate as a Guest Artist.

Running from 10–25 October 2026, Venice Photo Lab is an international photography festival presenting contemporary work across street photography, fashion, portraiture, landscape, architecture and reportage. This year’s programme takes place across several locations throughout Venice, including the Ex Chiesa di San Leonardo, Art Space Time and Palazzo Contarini Polignac.

My work is exhibited at the Ex Chiesa di San Leonardo, where Colour Divides forms part of the festival’s vertical-format presentation. The official 2026 artist programme lists my work alongside an international group of photographers exhibiting within the historic church space.

Photographed in Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap neighbourhood, Colour Divides centres on a blue Ford Cortina positioned between vivid green and pink facades. The image initially emerged from a spontaneous alignment of colour, architecture and an everyday object, while its title also points towards the more complex histories of identity, ownership and separation embedded within the location.

The photograph was named winner of the Object category in the Open Competition at the 2026 Sony World Photography Awards and has since travelled through a growing series of international exhibitions. Its presentation in Venice places the work within another significant photographic context, bringing it into dialogue with contemporary photographers working across a wide range of subjects and approaches.

The festival officially opened on 10 October at 6pm at the Church of San Leonardo and continues until 25 October 2026. The venue is located at Calle de la Chiesa 1584, Venice.
